Everyone knows the holidays can be a crazy time of year. Family and social commitments, Christmas shopping and all of those holiday parties leave little time for much else. House hunting is probably not on many people’s list of ‘Things-to-Do” during this time of year. So does it make sense to list your home or property during the busy holiday period? Well that depends, says Heather Carey, Estate Agent at Island Living Real Estate. “With the advent of the Internet, the holidays could be a great time to list your home,” says Heather. “In the Bahamas in particular, where the ex-pat buyer market is so strong, a lot of property buyers are on the island for the winter looking for homes.” Heather says that while the holiday season can seem hectic for many, a serious buyer will always be looking. And a buyer who is taking time out of their busy holiday schedule to view properties is a serious buyer — and that’s the kind of buyer you want. Heather also notes that with the kids out of school and many businesses closed for the holidays, serious buyers may have more time to view listings. “And with all the decorations, homes also show a little better as they are more welcoming,” she adds. There is also the advantage of less competition over the holidays, says Heather, as less people tend to show their homes this time of year. It might seem counterproductive to list your home during the holiday season but reduced competition, motivated buyers and a warm holiday home could all add up to selling your home faster and for more money.
