Gifts from the Sea – The Bahamas Stormy weather is a nuisance for some but for others it is an opportunity to receive gifts from the sea! Shells large and small, delicate and flat, can be found in the seaweed line than inevitably forms on the beautiful beaches of the Bahamas, where the wave line ends the attempt to invade land. For driftwood collectors this season is utopia! Sea glass is also a well sought after treasure, and wading through the little rock pools can be very rewarding for crafters and jewelry makers. Many houses and patios in the Bahamas are decorated with beauty collected from our surroundings. Some creative Bahamians make their living crafting found objects into furniture, art and useable objects such as salad bowls and even tables. The sea gives us so much: food, entertainment, beauty and inspiration. Respect the ocean. Take only memories and leave only footprints!
